It Takes a Community: Shaping a Wellbeing Society for All Generations

Dr. Liane Comeau

Executive Director, International Union for Health Promotion and Health Education (IUHPE)

At a time when many global trends are shifting away from investment in wellbeing, the 2026 Atlantic Summer Institute Policy Forum invites participants to reflect on what it truly takes to build healthy, resilient communities. Marking the 40th anniversary of the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion, this keynote will explore how its foundational principles—particularly community engagement—remain essential to shaping a more just, sustainable, and inclusive future.

Drawing on both global and local perspectives, this session will examine how health promotion has evolved as a field, a practice, and a movement. It will highlight the importance of collective action, collaborative leadership, and system-level change in advancing wellbeing across generations. Participants will be encouraged to consider their own role in shaping the conditions that support health, social justice, and resilience—now and into the future.

Stay Strong

Stay Strong is a fun and empowering 3 days program for children ages 6–12 where we build a strong body, mind, and heart. We grow our self-esteem, boost our confidence, and learn how to choose positivity every day.

Through games, movement, creative activities, teamwork, and guided conversations, we discover our unique strengths and practice kindness, resilience, and courage.

We also welcome special guests who teach us new skills in science, cooking, and the culture of Prince Edward Island among many other exciting topics.

Our approach creates a safe and supportive space where we encourage one another, celebrate our progress, and learn lifelong skills that help us stay strong inside and out.

About coordinator

We are excited to have our coordinator, Cristina Morales, back again this year!

Cristina is an Early Childhood Educator with over ten years of experience at Centre de la Petite Enfance l’Île Enchantée in Charlottetown.

She has worked with a diverse range of age groups, including infants (0-22 months), pre-kindergarten children (2-4 years old), and after-school programs. With a background in biology and a deep passion for the environment, Cristina incorporates elements of nature into her activities, helping children develop an awareness of the world around them.

As a pedagogical mentor, Cristina has demonstrated her leadership abilities by offering internships to Early Childhood Education students from both Holland College and Collège de l’Île. As a lecturer at Collège de l’Île, she passionately supports and inspires the next generation of educators, reinforcing her commitment to the field of early childhood education.

Above all, Cristina is a firm believer in valuing each child for who they are and advocates for the fundamental right of all children to grow in an environment that nurtures their creativity and imagination.
