Who We Are

Twenty Years of Upstream Health Leadership

The Atlantic Summer Institute has been doing something rare for more than two decades — building a regional hub where practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and community leaders come together to advance Health in All Policies across Atlantic Canada.

Founded in 2003. Incorporated in 2008. Bilingual. Active year-round. The only organization doing this work consistently, across all four Atlantic provinces, over the long term.

What We Believe

Health Is Shaped by the Conditions We Live In

Health is shaped by the conditions people are born into, grow up in, live, work, and age — not just by healthcare.

All policies affect health. Housing, education, employment, income, and community connection all play a role.

Upstream investment — acting before the crisis, not after — is both more effective and more equitable.
