The workshop “Mental health is more than we imagine!” was held on October 21 at the Sainte-Anne University campus in Pointe-de-l’Église, presented by the Atlantic Canada Summer Institute on Safe and Healthy Communities (ASI), in partnership with the Nova Scotia Health Network and the National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health.
In this workshop led by Nathalie Boivin, the 10 participants were able to learn about the link between mental health and broader systemic factors, including social determinants and the policy context, as well as how their actions can positively influence the well-being of all.
The workshop aimed to give participants the necessary knowledge to:
- Describe mental health as a population and systemic issue;
- Recognize the main social determinants that influence mental well-being;
- Understanding the importance of upstream interventions;
- Recognize the impact of policies from different sectors on mental health;
- Consider the possibilities of modifying policies within their sphere of influence in order to encourage mental well-being and cross-sectoral collaboration.
Thank you to everyone who participated!
This workshop was made possible through the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Intersectoral Action Fund as part of a one-year project to advance upstream investment in policies that promote equity and mental health for infants, children and youth in Atlantic Canada and beyond.
