Youth Engagement Program

Symposium on Child and Youth Mental Health

Investing in Child and Youth Mental Health: Mobilizing Atlantic Canadians for a Positive Future

We recognize that youth participation in the Symposium is a priority and have secured resources to support five youth participants from each Atlantic province to come together in Charlottetown for the Symposium and for a leadership day to follow. As such, we are inviting youth to apply for this engaging event!

Spaces are limited. Apply by July 15.

Who qualifies?
Young people between the ages of 18 and 25 who are affiliated with a community group and have experience  or are interested as an advocate or leader are encouraged to apply. Exceptions to the age limit may be made for young people who fit all other criteria.

What is provided?
The program will extend over 3.5 days (August 17-20). An orientation for youth delegates will be held in the afternoon of August 17 and there will be additional opportunities for networking throughout the Symposium while engaged in learning opportunities with all Symposium

participants. On August 20, in partnership with Girls Action Foundation, there will be a full day workshop on the importance of youth leadership, peer support and intergenerational relationships (see the youth program description and preliminary schedule for more details). A Youth Engagement Coordinator will liaise with sponsoring organizations and provide planning and oversight to the Youth Engagement Program. Travel, accommodation and meals will be provided.

What is the selection process?
If you know a young person who meets the criteria, could benefit from the program, and would like to contribute to the development of a strategy to improve the mental health of Atlantic Canadians, please encourage them to complete the online application by July 15.  Applications will be reviewed by the organizing committee and participants will be notified of their acceptance by July 17.

We want to ensure that many youth voices are represented during the Symposium so we will try to accommodate as many requests as possible given our budget and capacity.
